Visuals for KyläAreena

KyläAreena is an event about developing the countryside of Finland and its villages. There are workshops, discussions, trips and education. The event is held every couple of years in a different provence of Finland.

Before this year every event has had its own visual identity. The idea for this project was to create a recognisible identity for the event that could be used also in the future events.

The wish was for the visuals to be easily customisable for different usages. I wanted to make little elements that could be used as a mosaic.

This year the event is in central Finland. The provincial bird there is capercaillie. I wanted to use that as a part of the visuals.

The idea is that every year the visual identity would only change the animal. Every province has its own animal so that would be part of the visuals to bring something own for every event.

The logo of KyläAreena was already there and the goal was to get the visuals to go well together with it. Also the main colours, dark blue and orange, came straight from the logo.

The inspiration for the pictures came from the shapes of the roots inside the logo. I wanted the elements to have the same curvy look and to bring out the beauty of Finnish nature.

I made each element to go well with dark blue or white background. The elements can be used with or without their own background box.

I made some “mosaics” from the elements in different shapes ready to be used. But the idea is that the customer can also make a mosaic of their own and customise my mosaics to best fit their needs.

I illustrated all of the elements first by hand and then finalised them with the computer. I am happy that the hand drawn feeling is still there in the final versions.

I made also a more landscape like version from the elements. It is more simple and it brings balance when using it together with the more detailed pictures.
